"The Great Lon Chaney Sr"

So I went and revisited an old study I did a few years back. This originally was the first Lon Chaney Sr drawing I had tackled. It was completed using graphite on paper and I went back and did a digital painting of the same image.


I'm happy with the results, my techniques are improving but I need to focus on speed. I can get theses done with in a day or two but I want to create some new artwork that is not so detail oriented.

"Art Selfie"

The one subject matter that I HATE drawing is myself. Never liked self portraits, but I can tolerate them and amuse myself if I have fun with it. It's funny because most of my characters kind of resemble me anyways because I'm my most used model when it comes to references.

So I decided to do some portraits of myself and this is Art Selfie #1. I'm going to turn myself into various things and the first is a LOTR dwarve. I know its Dwarf but Tolkien always said it should be spelled Dwarve and I will listen to him because he is smarter than you.

Anyways... So I took a pic of myself as reference and made up this guy. I call him Nomar which is my name backwards and is also the name of my character in every role playing video game that play. I gave myself a bigger nose and ears so the facial hair wouldn't hide my features. I also added the peppered streaks to the hair; which is already there in real life so that is probably what it would look like. I didn't put much effort into the costume, my main focus was the head. I had fun with this and it was a quick painting I did in one night.

"I Love Lucy", I really do!

Some time has past since my last post but I have some new stuff to share with you all.

"I Love Lucy" is my favorite TV show of all time and Lucille Ball is my favorite movie star period. It's the sitcom that always made me laugh and it's one of the TV shows that I can sit and watch it over and over again. It also was an important part of Hollywood's history; Lucy and Desi represented two things... Two studio heads whom one was a woman and the other a latino.

 I've been wanting to do a study of this portrait for a while. I like to do these portraits as a means on training myself when it comes to using the wacom tablet. It allows me to learn techniques when it comes to mimicing things like texture and lighting effects. The most difficult part of this study was Lucy's hair; it was a pain. I focused on given the essence of what her hair was doing up there.
